Our Story.

Pike County Lumber Company started out as Pike County Coal and Lumber Company. Bill Grote, the father of Steve and Fred, started the company when he bought a preexisting coal business after World War II. Anticipating the decline of the coal market, the focus was shifted to solely lumber and building materials. The doors first opened on January 2, 1947. At the time, there were thirteen other lumber yards in Pike County. When the Alexander Lumber right next door to the old office closed in 2007, Pike County Lumber became the only lumber yard left in county. Needing to expand, the old Alexander Lumber building was purchased.
